The Montiferru coast, views from an unexpected Sardinia.

Sardinia is generally identified by a sandy and white coast of granite origin. Yet there is another Sardinia, less known, with high white cliffs on which beaches with crystalline waters open.

It is Montiferru, the only area of Sardinia of volcanic origin, where the evidence of that era (over a million years ago) can be seen in the basaltic rocks that rise up to the sea.

A land characterized by the abundance of water.

A rainy climate in winter and permeable rocks make this area rich in springs, such as the beautiful and suggestive one of S.Antioco in Scano Montiferro, a place in the heart of the FAI.
Another beautiful work of water is the natural waterfall that flows into the sea from the promontory of Cabu Nieddu, which recalls landscapes of far different latitudes.

The beaches of Montiferru

The coast is characterized by the alternation of dazzling white cliffs with beaches with crystal clear water, such as that of Santa Caterina di Pittinuri. Generally uncrowded, the beaches are east to west. This means beautiful sunsets, but also a mistral wind that can blow hard.

Starting from the south we can find

Is Arenas beach
Long white sand beach located close to the pine forest of the same name. Space at will even in high season
Sa Capanna beach
Near Torre del Pozzo. Small beach of very fine sand, but really suggestive

Priests Beach
Also known as s’istella beach, it is characterized by an extremely transparent seabed. It takes its name from the nearby Jesuit college

S’Archittu beach
Beautiful white quartz sand beach (does not stick to the skin). Shallow water suitable for children. Can get crowded in high season

Arco beach
This small beach made of very clear sand is located close to the famous arch carved into the rock, which is also very white. Fantastic view, a must for your social media.

Santa Caterina di Pittinuri beach
Spacious sandy beach of medium grain. Extremely transparent seabed but quickly deep. Beautiful panorama with the cliffs on the left side and the beautiful Spanish tower on the right.

How to reach the beaches of Montiferru
