Autumn in Barbagia 2022 takes place from 3 September to 18 December involving 32 towns in central Sardinia in an engaging experience of tradition, gastronomy and culture.
The best known and most successful tourism promotion initiative in the center of Sardinia kicks off from 3 September
Now in its twenty-first edition, Autumn in Barbagia is confirmed every year as the best showcase to promote the heart of Sardinia both in the regional territory as well as in Italy and abroad.
In fact, with a view to proposing a tourist offer not only linked to its wonderful beaches and the summer period, this initiative happily combines the idea of hospitality typical of Sardinia (hence the Sardinian name of Cortes Apertas) with the promotion of cultural activities and food and wine that are present in large numbers in Barbagia as in the rest of Sardinia.

Where to eat and where to sleep in Autumn in Barbagia 2022
Basically in each of the countries participating in the initiative it will be possible to eat the typical cuisine of Barbagia.
Authentic flavors and not very inclined to the fashions of the moment, those of the Barbagia cuisine are simple dishes cooked with what the territory offers. By choosing from this list you can find the ones from the country you are planning to visit.
There are also many solutions for sleeping.
The initiatives often involve several countries in the same weekend, spanning a geographical area that, from Bitti to Gadoni, runs through the center of Sardinia for over one hundred kilometers.
This is why we suggest taking our hotels as a base.
If you start from north east Sardinia, from the Hotel Felix Olbia and the Hotel Residence Porto San Paolo it will be really easy to reach all the towns that are located in the northern area of Barbagia.
Our Residence Hotel Grandi Magazzini is located in the center of Nuoro and in an excellent position to visit all the towns involved in the initiative.
If, on the other hand, you want to take advantage of the still mild temperatures and combine a beach holiday in Ogliastra with the green views of the heart of Sardinia, our Galanias Hotel & Retreat is the best solution.
An opportunity for experiential tourism in Barbagia
Autumn in Barbagia, however, must not be understood only as a food and wine festival. In fact, here more than anywhere else it is possible to have an authentic and engaging experience of Sardinia far from the positive and negative stereotypes that characterize the island.
The opportunity to live authentic material and immaterial traditions in a natural and not forced way, to discover the “how to make” a form of pecorino or a cutting board, a basket or a traditional mask. This is the real difference compared to many other festivals that you have already seen.

Autunno in Barbagia as a vehicle for the preservation of tradition
This initiative fully involves the host countries. Therefore, it itself becomes an opportunity for local communities to strengthen or sometimes rediscover traditions, involve young and very young people in the presentation of the country, in short, to keep alive what the Latins called Genius Loci, the spirit of the place.
We hope to have given you an exhaustive overview of Autunno in Barbagia. An initiative that gives the opportunity to learn about the tradition of an ancient people by following an itinerary that combines culture, history and food and wine.
